When you design a new front door, it’s important to review the property’s style, so you can compliment it or make a contrasting statement. Learn about the different materials, door design, fixtures, fittings, glazing and finishes, as these all contribute to your final decision, nothing should be overlooked.

We recommend complementing the style of your property with a door that has an existing style. Contrast door options are available. It can be more challenging to find a balance, it’s why we recommend speaking to one of the team about what you are envisioning for your new door design.

Front door design glass options range from clear, tinted, frosted, and patterns glass in single, double-glazed and triple-glazed. There are further customisations with the ability to add clear glass rectangles, fan shape or other patterns to create a statement with your front door. Wide entrances can be adorned with a thin sidelight window. These glass options allow doors to balance natural glass and privacy using patterned or frosted glazing.

Wood – wood panelling has become a trendy option for a front door, adding detail with horizontal panels. Wood doors look great with homes that have wood panelling detailing on its facade. However, it should be noted that wood’s exposure to the sun can result in discolouration.

Glass Reinforced Plastic – looks like timber, created using solid core technology that requires less maintenance. However, this is reflected in the price.

Glass – another modern option, glass suits properties that have a simple style. The advantage of this type of material is the intense amount of light let into your home. However, this option needs to be practical, for a property that sits on the road may need a lot of cleaning to keep the dirt and microplastics off the door. This option also lacks in the security department unless it is reinforced.

Metal – Steel and aluminium are popular choices for a stylish look that offers thermal benefits, strength and durability.

uPVC – budget friendly choice that offers coloured finishes. Thicker than other doors, this option does not provide as much strength as other material options

New doors are heavy and big, they can be awkward to install if you are not experienced with the process. There are a lot of different adjustments and levelling procedures that need to be made whilst the door is being held and secured. You may hurt yourself doing this adjusting and levelling process of door installation, we recommend leaving it with a professional, it is not worth the risk. In fact, there are a few reasons we wouldn’t recommend doing this. Not only could you injure yourself, but you could damage your brand-new front door. Imagine the pain of having to buy a second front door after damaging the first. Your installation most likely will not align the door correctly, resulting in a sticky, squeaky door that lets in drafts and doesn’t lock easily. Ultimately, if you don’t want to create more problems for yourself, hindering the function of your front door and safety of your home then get in touch with one of our team about front door installations.
